Disadvantage of subway is that

actual tunnelling would take

approximately 18 months, working

simultaneously from both ends

at a rate of 2 yards a day from

each face. As there would also

have to be a considerable

preliminary investigation the

total time taken would be more than

that in construction of pipe line

under either scheme.

Fairley further suggest s

that if the rock is suitable it

might alternatively be possible to

pass the water from Kowloon by

gravity directly through the
